Description
My research group is involved with a wide range of fundamental and applied chemistry that extends from the development of new synthetic transformations to the creation of a novel class of organic photochromic materials. The overarching goal of our research is to develop robust and efficient synthetic approaches to chemical reactions for applications in synthesis, as well as material science. By reducing or eliminating hazardous substances at the design stage, we also seek to develop reactions that provide creative solutions to challenging problems while taking advantage of green chemistry principles. Our highly interdisciplinary work can be broken down into four key research areas: (1) electrophilic functionalization chemistry using nitroso compounds, (2) synthesis of molecular building blocks from non-edible biomass, (3) development and application of a novel class of organic photochromic materials, and (4) efficient synthetic approaches to well-defined and functionalized polymers.
