Center for Stem Cell Biology and Engineering
The Center for Stem Cell Biology and Engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara is the result of years of effort and collaboration. The California Stem Cell Research and Cures Initiative was established in 2004 by Proposition 71. In 2005, UC Santa Barbara was awarded a grant of $1.3 million from the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) to renovate lab space to create a center dedicated to stem cell biology and engineering research. The grant supported a graduate and postdoctoral training program in stem cell research.
